When listing on Ebay, timing can be everything! Toys seems to do well all year round, but clothing is definitely seasonal. Below is a month by month guide of what to sell and when for children's clothing.
Can you give me a month-to-month breakdown of what to sell?
January: Early January is a good time to get your spring auctions ready. Nothing will sell well right after the holidays! Come mid-January Spring sales will start and it’s time to sell cooler-weather spring outfits. Raincoats (boots and umbrellas too), light jackets, pants/capris, short-sleeved shirts and cardigans do well; as do Valentine-themed outfits. Don’t sell jeans unless they’re clearly Spring-themed. With women's clothing, sweaters can still do well in January.
February: This month sees spring sales in full swing with children's clothing! Get everything for colder spring listed now because March will be all about the warmer Spring/Summer outfits. Easter dresses will do well now, so will sandals, and bathing suits too!
March: Full-blown warmer Summer outfits are crazy now. Keep on selling bathing suits; as well as pool shoes, hats, and towels, etc. No more pants or jeans this month. Keep them for Fall or the following Spring. Women's spring items should be picking up, and children's spring items will be slowing down.
April: Keep selling summer things as long as you can. You will see a dramatic decrease in children's clothing sales starting mid-April. Women's clothing is still a good seller.
May: I usually stop selling children's clothes via auctions in May and June. I direct my focus to toys, Women's and maternity clothes (they do well year-round), nursery items, books, collectibles, etc. Anything I can find that might make money – other than children’s clothes!
June: Keep on selling whatever you can find around your house and at those garage sales (such as nursery items and decor). If you have any 4th of July items, sell them in the beginning of June. I like to go through my kids’ toy boxes and sell lots of things that they’re no longer playing with. This is also a good time to catch up on other household chores (ugh!) and hobbies. This is a GREAT time to hit garage sales!
July: Early July get your Fall children's clothing ready. By the 15th of July, fall children's sales will start. It comes so fast every year. I’m never ready even though I always say I will be! Start out selling warmer weather Fall items, like light jackets/windbreakers, short and long-sleeved shirts, pants/jeans, shoes/boots, and backpacks – especially TV/movie character backpacks can do really well. Some summer Women's clothing items will still do well through July.
August: Keep selling Fall items – August is usually the craziest and most profitable month. Have fun!
September: Introduce winter clothing such as coats, ski/snow suits and winter-themed items (snowflakes, etc). Also – sell Halloween!! Ebay Moms like to have their Halloween costumes ready a few weeks in advance so definitely don’t wait until October to list. You can find Halloween costumes for cheap at garage sales and thrift stores all year round.
October: Keep on selling winter clothing, and around mid-October start selling Christmas and Holiday outfits. Everyone wants to get their Holiday pictures taken early so make sure you’re ready! Don’t forget to cross-sell and let people know if you have a matching little sister/brother set listed in another auction.
November: Get out all of your remaining Winter clothing. By mid-month, sales will take a big dive with children's clothes. Moms will be thinking Thanksgiving, and not Ebay. Start getting your toys and collectibles ready. This is the best time of the year to clean out those toy boxes! Holiday-themed china and decor does well now too.
December: Early in the month, you can auction off any remaining toys and collectibles, but get them out quickly. I try to mail everything via Priority Mail and Fed Ex during December since Parcel Post can take a really long time. Most people don’t like to buy later in December and risk not getting that special toy in time for the holidays. They’d rather hit the mall than chance buying on Ebay. Once all of your toys have been sold, relax and enjoy the holidays with your family!!! :O) Remember, the crazy selling season will start up again mid-January. |
